School Yard Knutsford

School Yard Knutsford is a food hall set within a historic school building, bringing together independent vendors, events and community. I developed a flexible brand system designed to balance heritage with a contemporary identity across both on-site and off-site environments. THE CHALLENGE The identity needed to work across a multi-vendor environment while respecting the building’s heritage. It had to feel distinctive, without competing with individual vendors. MY ROLE Led the development of the brand identity and scalable system from concept upwards, across signage, campaign and digital. THE APPROACH The solution was a scalable system where the intensity of the brand adapts depending on context. On-site: restrained and functional, allowing vendors to take focus. Off-site: more expressive, using colour, typography and imagery to build awareness. At the core is a simplified icon derived from the building’s architecture, designed to retain character while scaling across applications. The identity system combines: Typography inspired by British signage and letterpress, A duo tone colour palette balancing heritage and contemporary tones, Graphic textures referencing brickwork and print techniques. THE OUTCOME The result is a flexible identity system that works across signage, packaging, social, and large-scale campaigns while maintaining consistency. By adapting its intensity depending on context, the brand supports a multi-vendor environment on-site while building a strong, recognisable presence off-site. The final identity honours the heritage of the site & attracts the local community whilst feeling modern and exciting, drawing in a wider food hall going audience.
